Alternative Fuels - Provides Alternative Methods!

The perfect example of using alternative fuels is my grandmother and her family traveling in the early 1900's from Missouri to Oklahoma in a covered wagon.

I can't image traveling thousands of miles in a slow moving wagon pulled by mules. Mule power, a thing of the past.

The slow monotonous grind of traveling in a wagon would be torture. My grandmother didn't see many cars and she had no idea what the future held in the oil business.

My grandfather went to work in the oil patch in Southern Oklahoma and every member of my family, at one time or another, worked in the oil fields. Today the oil fields in Oklahoma are dead and no one in my family works in the oil industry.

I remember an old country song that said, "Lord Mr. Ford what have you done?" I don't remember the melody just a few words, "Lord Mr. Ford what have you done?" By the year 1927, the Ford Motor company placed 15 million Model T's on the roads.

Today, Billions of cars travel the roads of USA and the world. It is time to change from the "old school" to the "new school."

Alternative fuels can and will replace the old school gas burning engines of the past just like the car replaced the covered wagon. Let's get going and do our part in moving into the future. Alternative Fuels - Green Energy

A New Day Dawning

Today, in the year 2009, we have more than a dozen alternative types of fuels to work with. Voluntary private companies or private fleets are using the alternative fuels but in an attempt to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and improve air quality the doors are opening for the public to use these fuels. The Reality of Reduction

The truth, it will take a while to replace the gasoline powered car engine. No one is sure how long it will take but the push is on to change to alternative fuels as fast as possible.

What can we do to reduce pollution and our dependency on foreign oil?

Several ways to accomplish the goal of reduction and replacement:

Don't drive your gas-powered vehicle if you don't have to. Take your teenager to school instead of buying them a car. Boy, I know that would ruin their day. Mother taking a teenager to school, I can hear the roar. Maybe you could take the bus or walk to work if you can.
Turn the engine off when stopped. When stopped in rush hour traffic turn the car off.
Don't push the pedal to the metal. Slow down and go the speed limit might help, don't you think? Maybe if you went 65 mph instead of a 110 mph hour you would save a dollar.
Don't use the air conditioner unless it is needed. Endure the heat, sweat a little it will help you lose weight. No, really, turn off the air when you can.
Inflate your tires. Make sure you have enough air in the tires. Inflated tires will improve gas mileage.
Proper maintenance on your car will help. Replace fuel filters and air filters when you get your oil changed. This helps with gas mileage and pollutions.

Grandma's world and our world are so different. I can't help but wonder what she would say about the situation we find ourselves in today. She didn't have to go green her world was green. If we could only return to the simplistic world of my grandma but keep the technology of today.

Are you willing to try going green? We can be told over and over but until you decide to change, change will never occur.

Electric Cars - Reality or Dream

Electric cars will cut down on global pollution and reduce a carbon footprint but will the consumer surrender the desire for appearance, speed, and style to the electric automobile. The real question is will Americans and other extravagant countries actually buy the car. It is fact electric automobiles work and are an excellent method of transportation.

In the USA we are seeing a change on the highway but only a small change. However, it looks like the appearance of the electric powered car is improving and sales are up and the prices are coming down.

Alternative Fuel - Hydrogen

When I think of hydrogen, I think of the hydrogen bomb. I don't think a correlation exist between alternative fuel cells and the bomb but it might.

What I do know is hydrogen is not a naturally occurring product. The fuel source requires processing in order to use as a fuel. The real question is can it be used in automobiles as a clean burning fuel source?
