Bird Control - Woodpeckers, Beautiful but Damaging
UP DATE...Since we put a screen on the side of our house we have not had one single woodpecker beat our house down. 3/05/10
Bird control and the woodpecker is the topic of this page. The Woodpecker is a beautiful bird but it can do thousands of dollars worth of damage to your home. How do you love the bird but stop the damage without harming the creature.
Woodpeckers are beating our house to death. I mean they are tearing down the walls. It reminds me of the movie, "The Birds". Do you remember the movie? Thousands, millions of birds attached this town. Honestly, I don't remember much about the movie, just the out of control, crazy birds pecking out eyes and that sort of thing. Our situation is not as bad as the movie nor is it even close but we do need some green methods of stopping the Woodpeckers.
Our house is under attack by the spectacular and colorful Woodpecker. I have gone green so shooting the suckers are out of the question and it is against the law. We live in the woods in Cambria, California. Our house is in the treetops and we actually call our house the tree house. Now, it isn't a real tree house but it might as well be because our house is built on pillars which put the windows eyes level with the top of the trees. We love it and so do the woodpeckers.
A Natural Control Method
Finally we used a natural method to control the birds. We bought a net at a local hardware store, which was 14x14 feet, and we stapled it to the wood. It was easy and it didn't cost an arm and leg. In fact, it only cost around $10.00 for the net. We really hope it works because we don't want to treat the house with pesticides but if you to we will.
Up date: We put the screen up last summer and we have not had a single woodpecker peck our house.
