Bottled Water - The Sad Truth?
Bottled water is a joke. I can't believe we, and I use the word we because I have spent my hard earned cash on extremely expensive tap water in a plastic bottle, with the word "Natural" on the label. I need to have my head examined. Although, the water in the plastic bottle tasted better than the water from the stores bathroom sink. However, the taste could be purely psychological. It had better taste good if I paid over a dollar for a 12oz bottle. The truth about bottle aqua is startling. You would think the Government would regulate the bottling companies and the advertising but they do not.
Bottled Water - Fewer Regulations
Fewer Regulations for Bottled Water Than Tap, GAO Says By SARA GOODMAN of GreenwirePublished: July 9, 2009 - New York Times "Bottled water manufacturers are not required to disclose as much information as municipal water utilities because of gaps in federal oversight authority, according to reports released yesterday by government auditors.Sara Goodman's article in the New York Times also states, By comparison, GAO said, FDA regulates water in a bottle as a food and cannot require certified lab testing or violation reporting. Furthermore, FDA does not require bottled water companies to disclose to consumers where the water came from, how it has been treated or what contaminants it contains. In a survey of 188 brands of bottled tap water released yesterday, the nonprofit Environmental Working Group found only two providing such information about its product to consumers." The GAO is The Government Accountability Office. To read the full article go to this link.

Tap Water is Polluted
I can't remember the first time I bought tap water in a plastic bottle. When I was a teen it was a novelty but today it is a standard purchase for many families. I know the tap water isn't the greatest, in fact it taste like chlorine but it is safer than bottled aqua. No, it might not taste as good but at least you know the government regulates its quality. I guess the government knows how bad our tap water is because they check on a regular basis. Read what the website "buywaternow.com" has to say about public water systems, "There are also 100,000 different manufactured, or synthetic, organic chemicals in commercial use today. They include synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, paints, fuels, plastics, dyes, flavorings, pharmaceuticals and preservatives, to name a few. Many of these chemicals are toxic, and thousands of them have been found in public water supplies."

The Truth About Bottled Water
An article titled "The Truth About Bottled Water" By David Zinczenko, with Matt Goulding - Posted on Tue, Jul 21, 2009, 1:35 pm PDT David states, "You may actually be drinking tap water. Case in point: Dasani, a Coca-Cola product. Despite its exotic-sounding name, Dasani is simply purified tap water that's had minerals added back in. For example, if your Dasani water was bottled at the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Philadelphia, you're drinking Philly tap water. But it's not the only brand of water that relies on city pipes to provide its product. About 25 percent of all bottled tap water is taken from municipal water sources, including Pepsi's Aquafina."

One more important aspect to this discussion. On the news yesterday a report surfaced about the toxins in the plastic bottles used for bottled water. The news indicated the toxic chemicals in the plastic ultimately simulated into the water.
What is the Solution?
Sounds if we are damned if we do and damned if we don't. What is the solution to the water dilemma? In our home, we have a water filter. Gee, that sounds simple but it took us years and thousand of gallons of bottled trash before we changed to a filter. Finally, we saw the light. The water companies lied. Ain't a dang thing natural about water in a plastic bottle. Just because you see a picture of a Rocky Mountain stream on the bottle does not mean it came from the mountains. I do not think I would want to drink from a stream anyways. Yeah right, they go to this natural spring and load up a truck full of water, bottle it and sell it to us. Come on, they are lying to us and it is about time we stop buying bottled tap water.
