LED LIGHT BULBS - The Birth of New Light

What are LED LIGHT BULBS?

If you are like me I don't know the difference between regular bulbs and LED. What is the difference? What is an incandescent light bulb? What is all the fuss about?

For years the world has been using the common incandescent bulb. I am glad it was invented but now we are into a new age and a new source of lighting. THE MAGICAL LED is here to stay.

The main difference, as far as I know, is the LED uses less energy which means less power generated to produce light. Take a campfire for example. You put wood on the fire it gives heat and light. With LED you get a lot more light from less wood. Does that make any sense?

I guess I better let someone else explain the difference. According to Ledlights.org "When you compare the LED light bulb to the incandescent bulb you’ll notice there are quite a few differences between them. The main difference is the way they produce light. Incandescent bulbs use filament to produce light and the LED bulbs produce light through the movement of electrons. Filaments will burn out after so many uses so these bulbs will need to be replaced very often. Since the LED bulbs use the electrons there is nothing to burn out and so they’ll last much longer. In fact, LED bulbs are expected to last up to twenty-five to thirty years.

Incandescent bulbs need to be larger in size to house the filament and they’re made from a type of glass. LED bulbs are housed in a special durable plastic instead of glass like the traditional bulbs. This makes them more durable adding to their lifespan even more. The electrons don’t produce heat in the way that the filament bulbs do. This is the main reason why they use less energy. They don’t have to work as hard as incandescent bulbs to create light so, there is not as much energy being wasted producing heat.

LED light bulbs don’t use mercury so they are safer to use. The light they produce won’t get dimmer as time goes by and they’re even available in different colors. Even though the LED light bulbs are already being used in a variety of items they are not the primary light source for residential areas at this time. The main reason for this is because old habits die hard. It can be difficult for many consumers to change their old habits and make the switch from incandescent to LED.

The LED lights provide a more directional light instead of a soft glow that covers the whole room. However, technology has made it possible for the new designs being manufactured to provide the same type of lighting as the incandescent bulbs. Many consumers may also find the price of the LED light bulb to be expensive but when you think about the long-term savings, you can see how the initial cost will more than pay for itself in the long run." Today the news is a 60 watt LED bulb which can be used in the home was announced. According to this article on ENN.COM "Philips Unveils New LED Light Bulb to Replace the Most Common Household Bulb. Yesterday at the Lightfair International tradeshow in Las Vegas, Royal Philips Electronics unveiled its breakthrough EnduraLED light bulb. This bulb will be the world's first LED replacement for the 60 watt incandescent light bulb, which represents about half of all domestic incandescent light bulbssold on the market." We are seeing so many chances in the world today. Changes in lighting, energy, and cell phones, phones which do everything from taking a picture to surfing the net, are only the tip of iceberg. I wonder what is next.
