Slander - Word Garbage

Slander comes in many forms and it always hurts.

Matthew 15: 11 "It is not what enters into the mouth that defiles the man, but what proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man."

Slander - Word trash are words, which come out of your mouth that harm others. The old saying, sticks and stones might break your bones but words can never hurt you, is absurd. Of course, words can hurt. You may have heard this ridiculous saying many time and even believed it but it isn't true.

Words have the power to inflict great pain on others. Words, negative hurtful words can induce severe emotional pain on others. Jesus told us to watch what we say to others and ourselves. He indicated that words could and do actually defile a man. Defile means to corrupt or tarnish.

In order to change what you say you have to change what you think deep inside your soul. You have to challenge your belief system and recognize the words you use are hurtful to others. Hurtful words come from a heart that is defiled. Change your heart and your words will change.

If you have a problem with slander and gossip ask God to help, you change your heart. God wants you to use your words to glorify him and encourage others. Your words have tremendous power. You can use them to help others or damage others. Don't fall victim to the belief words don't hurt. A verbally abusive parent has ruined many a young life. Make up your mind to change what you think and what you say.

Prayer Focus: Lord, I admit I need change deep inside my heart. I ask You to help me change. Help me to use words, which bring glory to you and others. Slander - More Meditations
