Solar Power Equals Solar Energy
Solar panels are those silver and black things which are used to create solar power from the sun.
Maybe my explanation is simplistic.
Anyways, I see a lot of the little suckers these day.
A few people where I live use them but they are still isolated to a few signs.
Very simply put solar energy is the result of converting sunlight into electricity through panels.

Solar energy provides electrical generation by means of heat engines or photovoltaics. Once converted by using panels, its uses are limited only by human ingenuity.
Solar applications are used in a number of ways. Some ways including the heating and cooling of a home. Solar systems in RV's, industry and new laws are being past to move solar energy in to the forefront of our society.

Solar systems are alternative sources of energy derived from the sun and are being successfully used in homes all across the USA.
These systems are saving homeowners money and helping save the environment. Sunlight an inexhaustible from of energy which is being used to generate power for homes, businesses and industries.
In addition to not contributing to the depletion of the planet's resources, solar power systems do not create any harmful emissions. This is untrue of the fossil fuels used to create power.

From my research, it seems like you can actually save a few dollars by installing solar panels. However, you can expect an up-front investment, which will take a while to see a return.

Can you build your own panels?
I believe building your own panels will depend on you. Are you the build sort of guy who can do most anything with a tool?
I am not a fix it sort of guy. I mean I have a time turning a screw. If you are like me it might be better to buy the panels and have them installed.

Over all, you can probably buy the things you need for the project for a couple hundred dollars. With your new homemade solar unit you can save money for more than 20 years as these systems need very little maintenance and will last for a long time.
